How to use your NDL shipping mark so nothing gets lost

Groupage means your cartons travel beside dozens of other importers' cartons. The shipping mark is the only thing that keeps them yours.

What the mark looks like

Every NDL customer gets a permanent mark in the format NDL-GH-#### — for example NDL-GH-0005. It never changes, it belongs only to you, and it is what our warehouse team scans at intake.

Give it to your supplier in writing

  • Send the mark and our warehouse address together, in one message, before you pay.
  • Ask for the mark written on at least two faces of every carton, in large marker or a printed label.
  • Ask for a photo of the labelled cartons before dispatch.
  • Include your phone number under the mark for good measure.

What happens at intake

When cartons arrive we weigh and measure each one, photograph it, record the actual weight and CBM against your mark, and raise a draft invoice line. You get a WhatsApp notification the same day with the piece count and measurement.

This is why measurement disputes are rare: the numbers on your invoice are the numbers taken in the warehouse, and you can see them before the cargo sails.

Common labelling mistakes

  • Mark written only on the top face — it disappears the moment cartons are stacked.
  • Old marks from a previous forwarder left on re-used boxes.
  • Handwriting on shrink wrap instead of on the carton itself.
  • Supplier using their own reference and never mentioning yours.
